Walking May Ward Off Alzheimer's

June 19, 2006

Studies that will appear in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association show that mild to moderate exercise such as walking may help prevent mental decline and Alzheimer's disease.

Evidence is building up to show that exercise doesn't have to be strenuous to benefit you.

The benefits of fruit, vegetables, and healthy fats are also highlighted. Europeans ages 70 to 90 who ate a Mediterranean-style diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish and olive oil had a 23 percent lower risk of death during a 10-year follow-up than those with less healthy eating habits.

More information on the recent studies from MSNBC.
